June Goodband for Governor
of Vermont
Peace and Justice Party
Its time to elect a Governor that isn’t bought by big money and represents the people of Vermont
The two major parties maintain systemic economic, legal, and social injustice and foster unsustainable environmental practices. June Goodband and the Peace and Justice Party challenge this with our vision of a just, inclusive society with equitable distribution of wealth and power, sustainable use of resources of the benefit of all, decolonization, and demilitarization. June offers practical steps toward this vision.
All of us should have enough to live, be cared for when we can’t take care of ourselves, and have our needs met. Every person matters and none of us should be marginalized.
June’s Vision:
- Strong Vermont Communities
- where everyone contributes to
- maximize freedom,
- increase safety for everyone ,
- and make sure we are all able to meet our needs.
Increase Incomes:
High costs and low incomes are pushing people to the brink. It’s time to require profitable businesses to pay a living wage so their workers don’t need state assistance.
Universal Health Care
Implement Vermont’s law to reduce costs, increase access. and improve outcomes.
Change Tax Policy:
Use Progressive taxation instead of homestead taxes to pay for education. Increase taxes on high incomes and buildings that could be used for housing but are left vacant for most of the year. Separate state tax from federal tax. Set a standard deductible for state taxes that is in line with what it costs to live here.
Revamp Employment and Human Services to create community hubs where we can all go to offer our skills and abilites and seek help that is tailored to our specific needs. We all contribute and we all get peace of mind from knowing we have the support we need in an emergency.
Increase public safety:
- Build strong social support
- Distribute wealth and power more equitably
- Hold people accountable to the community
- Develop creative strategies that protect people, work better than prisons, and cost less.
- Help people gain and maintain stable long term housing by supporting home ownership in coop housing or modest homes with no interest mortgages. Provide short term emergency housing in congregate settings, as we would in a natural disaster. Create intentional communities that include people with low incomes. Make it easier to build modest housing and more difficult to build luxury housing. Maintain the strong connection Vermonters have with the land.
People Power, Not Money Power
We aren’t asking for money.
We are asking for help to build people power.
We can challenge the way big money buys candidates by creating alternative ways to get the word out about candidates in our communities.
